Abstract

This article aims to investigate the role of urban furniture as a strategic element in the construction of resilient and sustainable cities, considering the contemporary challenges imposed by climate change, social dynamics and technological transformations. Through a narrative literature review, aspects relevant to life in cities, such as sustainable design, urban ecology, and climate resilience, are presented, using reference cases to illustrate the issues raised. Among the theoretical contributions, the articulation between concepts of urban resilience and circular economy stands out, emphasizing a systemic and integrated approach to the design of these elements. The main results indicate that urban furniture, when designed based on principles such as modularity, durability, environmental intelligence and flexibility of use, can significantly contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change, promoting social justice and expanding the potentiality of public spaces. The results demonstrate that smart, adaptable and inclusive urban furniture has the potential to foster community belonging, democratize the use of urban space and improve the environmental quality of cities.
