Abstract

The presence and actions of various agents in the process of urban space production reveal how cities are continuously shaped by diverse, often conflicting, interests. The actions of these agents directly influence the formation and (re)production of urban spaces, demonstrating that the infrastructure and organization of cities are strongly shaped by social dynamics, which materialize in urban space. Under capitalist logic, unequal and segregated spaces are thus created. In this context, this article presents the results of research that sought to analyze how social housing in the Mário Raiter neighborhood in Sorriso (Mato Grosso state, Brazil) contributes to the (re)production of socio-spatial segregation in the municipality. The methodology adopted combines bibliographic, documentary, field research, and cartographic production, integrating theoretical frameworks with observable reality, which allowed for a critical analysis of the results. It became evident that the social housing in this neighborhood contributes to the (re)production of socio-spatial segregation in Sorriso, particularly due to its location, infrastructure, and access to services, in contrast to the western part of the city.
