Abstract

Universal Design aims to develop projects that are accessible to all individuals, regardless of their physical conditions, promoting equality and independence for the greatest number of people. This article, therefore, aims to evaluate the parameters of Universal Design in a base proposal of the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, in order to study how housing projects are developed for low-income individuals who benefit from the program. To this end, studies were conducted through scientific articles, specialized websites, and magazines, in addition to the analysis of a base floor plan from the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, followed by the implementation of Universal Design parameters in the same plan. It was observed that, although the original layout did not meet the requirements imposed by Universal Design, the modifications increased the total built area by only 17.46%. It can be concluded that implementing Universal Design in the program’s base projects is feasible, providing greater quality of life for residents and project efficiency, while promoting greater equality in Brazilian society.
